My journey into online business began as a quest to find scholarships to fund my college education. As an immigrant, I faced the challenge of not being eligible for many traditional scholarships.

The frustration of winning a scholarship only to have it retracted due to my residency status was incredibly disheartening. However, this setback led me on a path of discovery.

Through extensive research, I unearthed a world of online business transactions. Realizing that I could earn a living online and use the internet to support my college tuition was a game-changer. This was back in the early 2000s when platforms like eBay gained popularity.

I delved into online selling and quickly identified two viable ways to generate income: hunting for treasures at yard sales and thrift stores to sell for a profit on eBay and partnering with a dropshipping company that provided wholesale prices and storage for merchandise. These approaches made sense, and I was eager to learn more.

Despite not having the funds, I enrolled in an online program that promised to teach me how to make $700 a week through selling on eBay. This decision marked the beginning of my hands-on education in online commerce.

Along the way, I learned that with perseverance and the right mindset, it’s possible to build a business that practically runs itself, thanks to the power of the internet and automation. This journey has shown me that the entrepreneurial landscape offers opportunities for those willing to learn and adapt.

Here I was, an 18-year-old immigrant high school student with no credit history. Of course, I could not apply for a credit card, but I was talked into using my mother’s information to get it, and it worked!

(Mom, if you read this I apologize again for doing this, I had no idea what I was doing and it was wrong of me to do that…)

The whole program was a major disappointment! There was no training. I was just told to get a PayPal account, given links to find a drop shipper, and paid a monthly fee to access their merchandise—and that was it!

Whenever I asked questions, I was told to do more research and find hot items to sell.  

Eventually, I called the company one day, but no one answered.

I was lost and didn’t know what to do. I went from having no debt to having a debt that grew to over $2000 over the years because I had not paid it.

I didn’t know at the time that I could just call my credit card company and have my purchase refunded. By the time I tried, it was too late, and they couldn’t help me cancel the debt.

I still needed to make some additional income, as I was in such a bad financial situation. An honor roll student in high school who starts college with no books is almost unheard of, but that was my story.

Instead of giving up and putting my hands down, I continued my research and started selling on eBay and then Amazon.

I learned a lot and made a few sales, but my profit margins were too low. The most important thing is that I took action and made my first dollar ever online this way.

Since then, I’ve gone into direct sales, learned how to use pay-per-click advertising to promote offers and make commissions, interviewed a New York Times Best Seller and a few experts, and learned blogging, article marketing, SEO, and affiliate marketing.

All these different methods work, and you can make them work when you truly understand your goal and your market’s needs.

You’ve probably seen a collection of sites promising you will get rich quickly, they post inspirational quotes and focus and minute details that do not help you.

In this blog, I will not discuss untested theories. I will write about my own personal experiences as well as the experiences of other entrepreneurs who have found a way to dramatically improve their lives.

When you realize you can get clients to pay you, you just need to focus on getting more clients. You can set and control how much you want to make. Let’s say you’re selling an item for $100. Here’s an idea of what you can expect:

1 Sale: 1 x $100 total earned is $100

5 Sales per day: 5 x $100 total is $500 per day or $3,500 per week or $14,000 per month
